Flume 51 Replacement
Location: El Dorado County, CA
For a public works client, the project consists of removal and replacement of flume and canal sections that is part of a Hydroelectric water conveyance system.
Located in a remote area with limited access, scope of work includes removing and replacing existing flume sections, improving subgrade foundations, and performing hillside stabilization. To manufacture the new flume sections, a concrete casting yard using customized form work was created near the project site. Once the new flume production phase is complete, the new flume sections will be transported to the worksite for installation.
A significant challenge on the project is performing the removal and installation of flume sections during a defined shut-down period. With limited access to the canal and work area combined with the potential for adverse weather conditions, creative project management solutions are required to complete the work safely and on time.
